Write about a ship or other vehicle that can take you somewhere different from where you are now.

I talk about this a lot, but my favorite interview question ever has got to be — “what vehicle most represents you and why?” It was over a phone interview with my future bosses (although I didn’t know it at the time), and I had heard everyone’s advice that if you need time to think about something, you take it. So I nervously asked for a second…and somehow this popped into my head, and I’m pretty sure I didn’t even think through what I was going to say, which is extremely ironic. Below is a transcript of what I imagine I said:

“Oh, well… I like to think of myself as a train, because when tough things come my way I just keep going, kinda like how a train just keeps chugging along. And also, sometimes I just talk a lot, and I just keep going and going and don’t really know when to stop, so…”. That last sentence was said with a bit of a laugh, I’m just glad they picked up on my humor and didn’t immediately reject me because of that…

The next train I take is going to be the one I take to Philadelphia to go to the airport. And then I’m going to hop on a 5 hour flight to Utah, and then drive 1.5 hours back to campus. Overall it will be around a 9–10 hour affair, but hey, that’s cool! But the train. That’s the start of my journey. It’s a weird, bittersweet feeling. I have one semester of school left. And then I will have my Masters degree and I am honestly so excited.
