Don’t get frustrated by the results you didn’t get by the work you didn’t do.
It’s frank, strict, and clear. You do the work, and no one owes you anything unless they choose to help you out of the kindness of their own hearts (which I begrudgingly try to believe happens more often than not). You make your choices. You take responsibility and you get to reap the full benefits. Now, you might also suffer the full consequences, but…you’ll figure it out.
Coming from someone who has failed multiple times usually due to my own stupidity and refusal to accept reality — when you look back on your choices, you end up just accepting them (well, you have to, or you’ll never move on). You laugh at yourself, you make self-deprecating jokes, you emote, but you get to find joy in the fact that you took control. You didn’t let life happen to you, you ultimately made the choice that either served you wonderfully or maybe forced you to struggle, but eventually taught you how to overcome.
I have a strange and most likely annoying pride in doing my own work and being resourceful. My parents raised me to be my own person and to push when things get tough. They also gave me advice and help and love — but ultimately they reminded me that in the future, I would be even more responsible for my own decisions, so I should probably figure that out now.
