Write out 15 positive affirmations.

I’m most likely going to do this incorrectly. I just wrote 15 reminders to myself (I’m writing this paragraph after the fact). Maybe “affirmations” is much too specific & general all at the same time. I always think of it as someone looking themselves in the mirror & saying “you are worthy & loved”, and it doesn’t really do much for me. I’m not sure why — could it be that I don’t actually believe it, or that I completely believe it & I don’t need such reminders? But it’s such a general topic that I could say just about anything. But I also think it’s too specific because I’d rather just write 15 things that make my life better. So here we are.

  1. Life is good, and sometimes it gets worse, and then it gets better, and sometimes it gets worse again, but it always gets better…eventually. For fun I say “life sucks, then you die”, but that’s not true. It (mostly) only sucks if you want it to!
  2. When you have a choice between doing something or nothing, always do something. You’ll never regret it.
  3. If you feel like you’re no longer learning or growing, it’s time to move on.
  4. Give 100% of your best. If your situational best is 90% of your usual best, give 100% of that.
  5. Life is good even when it’s tough. Life is good because it’s tough, or it wouldn’t be worth living.
  6. It’s okay to have emotions. It’s okay to be emotional. Also, the only person who thinks that it isn’t okay is yourself, so don’t be so hard on yourself.
  7. You don’t have to be so hard on yourself, you knucklehead.
  8. Opinions: everyone has them, but they do not always need to be shared.
  9. Always stay true to yourself. Incredibly cheesy & usually obvious, but sometimes really hard to remember.
  10. Sometimes you have to choose to chase a dream. And sometimes that means you miss out on other things. But it’s always going to be okay.
  11. Don’t ever lose the ability to laugh about stuff.
  12. It’s okay to take some things less seriously. I got a tattoo of feathers awhile ago and at first it was a reminder that I need to keep things from weighing me down, but now it reminds me that it’s okay to keep things light.
  13. It’s okay not to stick incredibly strictly to your routine sometimes. Can you go grocery shopping after you run, or maybe even do that the next day so you can get one full day off?
  14. It’s much better to remember that you’re allowed to change your opinions as time passes. Don’t get stuck in your ways if you don’t want to be.
  15. Never, ever force people to listen to your crappy music. And yes, you probably have crappy music.
